Think of me hiking

So, I didn't sign up for the race. We are going out of town that day. A part of me wishes I was running with you all. It is so fun to run a race with friends. I did Moab 1/2 a last year with friedns and had a blast. But then I remember a few weeks back and training for the Wasatch Back and how relieved I was knowing I didn't have to train anymore when we finished. During the grueling race I decided I wouldn't run for a few weeks and that I am going to dedicate my Saturdays to nice hikes instead of "long runs".
Mel it was fun seeing you when we were out running.
Have fun.

I will leave you with a motivational running quote:

"You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement."

Have We Lost All Motivation?

Hi Friends,

I was just checking in to see how the training is going. Chels, are you there? Jen, are you running? Mel, how's the mileage? Kort, how is the tan for Hawaii?

I have started running again but am taking it pretty slow. Mostly just trying for three days a week. Hopefully Jimmy and I can run a 15k at the end of July. That's the goal atleast.

It's probably a good thing I didn't get into the race because flights are going up, and we are all out of our free Delta Dollars. I would much rather fly for free than pay.

Anyways, update someone with how things are going.

Bad News, For Me Atleast.

So my sister-in-law just called to inform me that she heard that The Hobblecreek Half registration is now closed.

Crappy.

Mel and Jen, I know are already registered. Did anyone else get signed up in time?

I was unsure if I was going to make it due to my knee, but now I'm really bummed.

Let me know if you know anything.

An uphill battle...

I truly have started to enjoy running again. It's something that Isaac and I look forward to everyday. I was starting to feel like I was in pretty good shape...until this morning. I went on a 5 mile run, with the first 2.5 miles being uphill. It kicked my butt! If you were to tell me that the 1/2 marathon was uphill the whole way, I would drop out right now. The good news is we will drop 1582 ft in elevation throughout the race. The bad news is that I've been told that mile 6-10 has some pretty good uphill also. Any tips for running uphill? (Besides telling Isaac he has to get himself up the hill, and I'm not pushing him.) Anyway, good luck to all...Happy running!

Its Getting Better!

Was that Jen that made that last post? My Ipod is my running mate as well. I have gone occasionally with somone else-but I am always worried that they are in better shape than I am and will be regretting they came with me. The run on the Porter Rockwell Trail was a lot of fun-good to talk and catch up on things. I like running with my stroller a lot more than I thought I would. Now if someone could drag my butt out of bed in the morning-then I would be set. It really is getting easier though as I go more and more. Thank goodness!

Running Buddy

I have found that the best running tool is a running buddy.
I have used my i-pod as a running buddy in the past but my sister Whitney has started to run with me and it has been quite fabulous. I find that having someone to talk to takes my mind off of the running/long distance. For any of you who don't have a running buddy I recommend finding one. How did the run go on the Porter Rockwell Trail? I wish I could have been there to run along with you guys. It sounds like everyone is working hard and doing well. I am very proud of all of us.

Happy Mother's Day!!

We will indeed be holding a group run next week in Draper. C. Ware and I are both available W&Th morning. I was thinking somewhere from 2-3 miles. We can run on the Porter Rockwell Trail, and there's another trail in Draper I have grown to love. The second trail is not named nor marked, so E-Dawg if you could bring your "distance tracker thing" that would be much appreciated. What time works for everyone? Around 8am works best for me, but I've been known to be flexible. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, and most of all...HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO YOU ALL!!!

Troubling Knees.

My knees have really been aching when I run and for a few hours to a day after a long run. It's really quite discouraging. I am going to only do about one long run a week and take it easier on the rest of the days.

Any hints for troubled knees?

Mel and I are going to run together next week one or maybe two mornings. If anyone is up for it, come along. Porter Rockwell Trail, right Mel?

Beautiful Day!!!

Yesterday, I had to wait until 6pm to go running because of the freezing temperatures and thunder showers. However, there has been a dawning of a new day and it's warm! I felt like I was over dressed in my long sleeves and shorts on my run this morning!

Kristi, welcome! I am excited you're going to run Hobblecreek. 4 miles, well done! I am supposed to run 4 miles this week and I'm a little nervous. I am going to have to really pump myself up!

I'm so glad you signed up Jen. You are a very determined girl, I know that you can reach this goal.

We really are going to have a party the morning of Aug. 23. Until then, good luck with your running and let me know if anyone needs a running partner that will make them look good.

PS Lau, do you run on 13th East? I think I saw you one day trucking down the road.

***PPS All you bloggers, is flabfreedom.com on your list of links yet?

Oh Crap...

So here's the deal. When I first got Mel's email I was enthusiastically planning on supporting this idea to try a half marathon. For those of you that may or may not know this about me I really have not had very good success running. It's hard for me to get motivated to do it and really easy for me to convince myself that it's hard on my knees, ankles, etc. and so I probably just shouldn't do it. Plus Kylan and I would really like to have our kids about 2 1/2 years apart so that means getting pregnant in the next month or so and I don't know if I should be runnign while I'm pregnant...

As you can see I'm really good at convincing myself that I just shouldn't bother and that I'll just cheer you all on.

But then I start to feel like I'm letting you all down (even if you don't feel that way) and that I'll really regret not at least going for it. Then I know in my head that it's so good to have a goal that you're reaching for and I think, maybe I'll give it a shot...

Well I just registered for the race.

Oh crap.

I haven't even put on my running shoes in who knows how long and some of you are already doing 5 miles?!?!?

I guess I'll check out the site that Laura recommended and give it a shot.

Help!

Nike Plus?

I hope no one minds, Chelsea invited me to join in on the "fun" of running the half marathon. I am very grateful because I am finally getting motivated to start running again. Today I did my personal best since having my daughter, Marina. Four miles. I have a long way to go.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has a Nike+ Ipod? I am new to mine and I know you can create training programs and then share them, but it is not going well for me. Does anyone have a program already set up that they can share? Thanks,

Kristi

Happy Snow Day...

I am the biggest advocate for snow that I have ever met. And, today is the first day the snow has frustrated me. It is May 1st, and I have been trying all day to go out running. I have gotten dressed twice now, only to see a blizzard outside of my window. I haven't had the heart to take Isaac outside in the snow during the month of May (although doing it in March and April didn't seem to be a problem). Alright, so now for the point of this post:
**DON"T FORGET TO REGISTER IF YOU PLAN ON RUNNING HOBBLE CREEK!!**

Good Thoughts?

I like the top of the blog-how inspiring. But I can honestly say I am having no good thoughts while running right now. I will let you know if they get any better

Is Anyone Really Reading This?

Hey gals,

I hope all is well in the mission to free ourselves of flab. Thanks to our trusted leader Mel for keeping us up to date on the race and training. Laura, I checked out that link at Runner's World and it looks pretty cool. I put in all of my info and it set me up with a running schedule. The pace seems a lot slower than what I would like to finish up at, but I am going to give it a try. It has me running 7 miles this week, so we'll see how it goes, the furthest I have gone is 5. I realized last week that I was doing too much and trying to run too fast and this week I have slowed down and have taken a few days off and my body feels much happier.

I am officially coming up for the race. Jimmy's cousin is getting married that morning and I was a little worried about how it would look if I skipped out on a family wedding to run a race, but I'm going to do it. For me, it will be a long-time goal accomplished and I really need to accomplish something like this. It will be good.

On another note, I am a proud member of Weight Watchers of eight weeks now. Last week I logged in 15 pounds lost on the old scale--and I think it is about 15 pounds less than when I got pregnant with Hannah. It has been such a positive, good experience and I would highly recommend the program to anyone that finds themselves needing something like this now, or later in life. I have learned a lot and feel like I am on track.

Jimmy and I laugh about this now, but when I returned from my mission and was struggling with life in general he gave me some future husbandly advice of reading my scriptures and exercising. I wanted to punch his lights out. But, as I have been really active now for more than a month, I can see that my demeanor and attitude are so much better. Exercise may not be the cure-all but it has sure helped me to cope with life.

Anyways, that's my rant for the day. Hopefully we'll hear from some others soon. Running the race or not, stop in and say hi.

And for Mel. No, I will not be pregnant and yes I will be giving suck to my child.

3 posts on my first day!

So, I now have some things I have been wondering. If any of you would like to comment it would be much appreciated:
#1 Honestly, how many of you are going to pregnant by race day?
#2 For those of you who were recently pregnant and now have a suckling child, are you going to stop breastfeeding by the race?
#3 For those of you who have a personal blog (which I don't, so I'm exempt), what do we have to do to flabfreedom to get it on your list of blog links?

Alright ladies have a lovely day!

The rigorous schedule...

Hal Higdon is the marathon guru, and has a great schedule to follow.
Here is that link: http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm

And now, here is my version of getting us through this half marathon!

I am planning on running 3X a week, and then doing some cross training 2X a week. You can adjust that to whatever your schedule will accommodate (more or less). However, I would make sure you are running at least 3X a week. Starting May 4, we have 16 weeks to race day. Each week, choose a distance for 2 short runs and then try to make the distance of the long runs. And, please call to chat if you have any questions. (Or, you could always call someone who actually knows what they’re doing).

Wk 1 long run: 4 miles
Wk 2 long run: 4 miles
Wk 3 long run: 5 miles
Wk 4 long run: 5 miles
Wk 5 long run: 6 miles
Wk 6 long run: 6 miles
Wk 7 long run: 7 miles
Wk 8 long run: 7 miles
Wk 9 long run: there is an extra week in this schedule, so it gives you room to miss a week for vacations
Wk 10 long run: 7 miles
Wk 11 long run: 8 miles
Wk 12 long run: 9 miles
Wk 13 long run: 10 miles
Wk 14 long run: 8 miles
Wk 15 long run: 10-12 miles
Wk 16 is race week! Do short runs and rest this week, and on Saturday we’ll be ready!

There is a lot of repetition to this schedule. So, if you don’t want to start right yet or you aren’t quite up to 4 miles, just adjust appropriately.

Time to register...

Hello all! Don't forget to register for the Hobble Creek Half Marathon on May 1st!
Here is the website: http://www.srcevents.com/hobblecreek/
Check it out!
PS This is my very first time posting on a blog!

This is AWESOME!!

Erin, this is really great. I love the name of this too...what relief we will all feel from our flab oh so soon!! I just wanted to give a little motivation to all from my corner of the world. I know it probably sounds weird saying this but I loved running the St. George marathon in 2006. After I finished I truly felt empowered...I felt like I could do anything I put my mind to, because I had just finished a marathon, it has given me confidence to do a lot of other things I never thought possible. I'll be honest with you, I didn't RUN the whole thing. My sister and I would take walking breaks and because I had problems with my knees I had to walk the last 5 miles. But my goal was to finish, and I did, and my other goals was to be smiling at the end, and believe it or not, I was!! Running a half marathon will be the same! Running races is really fun, the energy from the other runners is amazing. So here we go!!--Aisha J.

A Tid Bit

I read this article a few days ago. Thought I'd pass it on. There are some good tips if you get a chance to read it.
